Becs

When you’re living in a town where the population is 400, you better hope you have friend potential. Thankfully, I found Becca turned Becs (the Australians changed her nickname, more conventional this way I guess!).

Becs left her heart in Spain - going to a bilingual school growing up set her up with fluent Spanish and study abroad programs brought a strong love for the culture and country. After trying corporate work at Target and in San Diego, she realized the desk life wasn’t for her. She’d much rather be exploring and traveling - but most importantly, in an Op Shop finding the latest books for her collection or little trinkets to add to her Etsy shop.

We spent a lot of time reading, playing cards, and collecting every item of free food left in the hostel. For some unknown reason, Kellie and Gary seemed to trust us early on and began training us on reception to be relief managers for a weekend (where we promptly locked ourselves out on the first night but no worries, everything else went smoothly!) I couldn’t have asked for a better partner in crime. We may have drank too much Tinto de Verano and lost afternoons in our books and naps, but who can blame us?! The couch was too comfortable.

Growing up in Minnesota, Becs’ family roots brought her back home only 7 months into her time in Australia to throw a baby shower for her sister and be home for the birth of her new nephew in July. I’m pushing for a September or October return down under to finish out her year long visa - we still have exploring to do! If not, I see South America or other cities in our future. Be you Becs!
