Rockhampton

After early morning work and the odd vibes in Emu Park, we were ready to relax and recharge.

Our first day in town was your typical teenage day out experience - lunch at a chain restaurant, shop at the mall, and movie afternoon. Exactly what we needed. Jo had been dying to see the new John Wick 3, so it was an action packed afternoon. Before the movie, I spent time in the kid’s zone coloring a picture from Toy Story 4 and made Jo pretend to see alien’s with the MIB sign.

Our AirBnB host Rob invited us for a true Aussie BBQ that evening. And true Aussie BBQ it was - we started getting the fire on the grill around 6 and ate dinner around 9! That’s what chatting and distraction will get you. The food was delicious, sausages with grilled onions and fresh eggs with a side of pasta salad. Before bed, I popped into the living room to watch a few Rent Live! songs with one of Rob’s housemates and her mom.

Our relaxing day ended up being pretty busy with activities.

The next day, we went to the Rockhampton Zoo. Due to trouble at the Emu Park hostel, Quentin and Stella had come to Rockhampton early and were able to meet up with us! The zoo featured mostly Australian native animals, from emus and kangaroos to crocodiles and dingos. They also had chimpanzees with a baby chimp that was only a year old! A clear way to melt my heart. We walked through the botanical gardens before having a picnic lunch by the lake.

We said one last farewell before Jo and I made our drive down to Agnes Water.
